This lovely vintage chest has been completely transformed by hand using layers and washes of blue, turquoise and soft aqua tones, allowing subtle variations in colour and texture to show through.
Rather than a flat, uniform finish, the paintwork has been built up gradually to create depth, movement and individuality. The result is a beautifully atmospheric piece that changes subtly with the light.
The original mid century-inspired shape gives the chest a timeless quality, while the expressive painted finish brings it firmly into the contemporary home.

As with all my painted furniture, this is a completely individual, one-off piece. The finish has intentionally been created by hand, so gentle variations, brush marks and tonal differences are part of its character rather than imperfections.
